Buying Tip

There are two main ways for storing data on your trail camera. Internal built-in memory or using an external memory card.

The internal memory has the advantage of not having to spend money on an SD card but the major drawback is that to access the pictures, you need to un mount the whole set up. You will also be required to open up the camera making it lengthy and less efficient. Storage space is also limited.

Using an external SD card has more benefits than the internal memory. When you want to access the images, just remove the memory card and replace it with a different one.

You also have the option of upgrading to a higher storage capacity when using a memory card. Compared to the cost of upgrading the internal memory which will cost as much as a new game camera.

Another great benefit of using the external memory card is when the trail cam gets damaged. Some keen eyed animals like bears may come across the camera and decide to investigate. While they are strong enough to destroy the apparatus, chances are you will find the memory card intact. You can then access your images.

The type of images will also influence the type and capacity of storage. If you plan on capturing video clips, you will need more storage. This higher storage capacity may not be available on the internal memory making the SD more efficient.

However, it’s important to note that there is an upper limit to the storage capacity that is compatible with the game camera. It usually depends on the manufacturer but the common one is 32 GB.
